Welcome to the 14th World Music Festival (WMF) one of the largest competitions for accordion, harmonica, Styrian harmonica, and other harmonica instruments for orchestras, ensembles, and bands. For the first time, the Tag der Harmonika (TdH) of the Harmonikaverband Österreichs will take place as part of the WMF. This event offers a platform for all harmonica instruments in ensemble, duo, and solo formats.
Over 3,000 participants in 160 orchestras and ensembles, or as soloists, have registered for this top-class highlight of the musical scene. The participants come from Denmark, Germany, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom. Among them are 400 participants from Austria.
“For over 40 years, the World Music Festival has transformed Innsbruck into a resonance space for musical diversity and intercultural encounters.” With thousands of musicians and guests from all over the world, it is a cultural highlight, a unique experience for listeners and “A significant tourist stimulus at the same time – lively, unifying, and sustainable,” says Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism.
The audience can look forward to top-class competitions in various categories for accordion, Styrian harmonica, harmonica, and other instruments. On Harmonica Day, soloists, duos, and groups compete against each other. The world’s best orchestras and ensembles come together in the World Music Festival competitions.
Thanks to the two competition events taking place simultaneously for the first time, the entire spectrum of accordion and harmonica music can be experienced. The two competition days, Friday and Saturday, will be packed with 355 competition performances. In parallel, the evening program offers concerts with top international artists, making the festival the cultural highlight of the year.
“The audience can expect four days of harmonica and accordion music, presenting all facets of the instrument at the highest level. “We are delighted that, in addition to the many participants, we have also been able to attract renowned musicians to the festival,” says DHV President Jochen Haußmann MdL.
