Invitations to join the project 2026 Global Accordion Project Orchestra (GAPO) opened on September 1st, 2025.
2026 is also “The Year of the Accordion” in Germany, so this is a great opportunity for our instrument, giving us the chance to promote the accordion to a very large audience. “The accordion orchestra scene should also take its place in this celebration so today we are very excited to invite players and supporters from around the world to join a new group commission for Ian Watson to write.”
Ian (picture left) has already started work on the new piece and is excited to share it with you all!
The project will run similarly to last time with commissioners sending in videos of themselves playing their chosen part. Once again organisers are opening up the commission to include people who would like to support it but do not wish to submit a video to be part of the performance. This means that supporters of new music and the arts who do not want to submit a video can also feel part of creating something new. They are also including conductors / dirigent for the first time.
Timeline:
- September 1st: invitations open
- October 1st: Music and click track emailed to all players
- November 1st to 14th: Videos to be sent into GAPO (if you would like to be in the video premiere)
- January 1st 2026: World Premiere of the video on YouTube / Facebook
