Aníbal Freire, President of the Accordion Association of Portugal, has announced that the Accordion Association of Portugal will hold the 29th International Accordion Week “Alcobaca 2026” from May 16th to 24th, 2026.
“Concerts, masterclasses, conferences and competitions will once again be key moments which, as usual, will bring together some of the best accordionists and teachers in the world.”
The 29th National Trophy and the 10th International Accordion Competition, taking place from May 22nd to 24th, will once again provide an opportunity for many young accordionists (Portuguese and international) to assess their artistic knowledge and technical skills.
“Over the past four years or so, we have noticed the very high and steadily increasing number of participants in both the National and International Competitions. Therefore, for the first time, we decided to change the format of the Regulations, introducing tables that we believe are clearer and more informative regarding the requirements for participation in each competition category.”
This year, there will be four additional category variants. These new categories are related to younger accordionists: the Beginner Category and the Children Category
Beginner convertor A

Thus, participants whose programs include pieces performed on the Free Bass System will not compete against participants who perform pieces on the Standard Bass System.
