Andrii Fesenko (Ukraine) will perform a Benefit Concert at the Institut français Mainz in Mainz, Germany on June 19th, 2026 from 7pm, which will feature original accordion works from the twentieth century, alongside his own arrangements and improvisations, including works from his solo album “Ukraine 2022”.
The audience will have the opportunity to discover a rarely performed repertoire and experience the rich and diverse sound of the accordion. In his concert, Andrii Fesenko shows the diversity and expressiveness of Ukrainian academic music of the 20th century – the music in which European tradition and Ukrainian folklore are combined in a special way and through whose interpretation a modern, colorful sound is created.
The program includes works by Ukrainian composers Kyrylo Stetsenko, Platon Maiboroda, Volodymyr Podhorny, Anatolii Biloshpytskyi and Volodymyr Bulavko.
A common basis is formed by Ukrainian folk melodies, which characterize the special sound language of this music. The works will be performed in their own arrangements for accordion. This format underlines the close connection to the folk music tradition and at the same time opens up a new, modern concert sound.
The concert is part of a charity initiative to support Ukraine. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase the album “Ukraine 2022” for a donation.
Special guest at this concert will be the baritone Daniel Semsichko, a member of the Young Ensemble of the Mainz State Theatre.
