Accordion Ensemble Workshop and Concerts in Kuhmo and Nurmes – Finland

Renowned Finnish accordionist and conductor, Jukka-Pekka Kuusela, organized an ensemble workshop in the Small Hall of Kuhmo Arts Centre in Kuhmo from May 9th to 11th, 2025. The workshop program was based on two world premieres by Kalle Välimaa: The Play before Weekend and a 16-minute piece “Cat’s Dream”.

The final concert by the workshop participants took place at the Kuhmo Arts Centre on Mothers’ Day May 11th, 2025. This concert included music by Romanic style Finnish female composer, Helvi Leiviskä as well as Astor Piazzolla and traditional Finnish folk music.

On May 12th, 2025 Jukka-Pekka Kuusela and Kalle Välimaa introduced a new concert program for accordion and organ at the Nurmes church, which is the 5th largest church in Finland.

Their program included Chorale preludes by J.S. Bach and Johannes Brahms and Fantasy in A major by César Franck.
The enthusiastic audience gave the performers long applause.
