On the 18th and 19th of October, accordion enthusiasts and professionals will have the opportunity to participate in a special event featuring renowned accordionists Carisa Marcelino and João Pedro Delgado.

This Accordion Meeting will consist of masterclasses and group sessions designed to support both students and educators in their professional development.  The program will cover essential topics such as chamber music, teaching systems, didactic resources, pedagogy, and stage anxiety management.

With a focus on improving mental and physical control for optimal performance, this event is structured to enhance the skills of participants in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The event will be held both in-person and online, ensuring access for a wider audience.

Carisa Marcelino

Born in 1984, is one of the most prominent Portuguese concert accordionists, with a wide-ranging artistic career and extensive activity.

Carisa has won numerous national and international competitions, most notably placing 5th in the 2005 Coupe Mondiale (Senior Concert Accordion category), winning 1st prize at the Folefest competition (2007), and 1st prize in the Chamber Music category at the 2006 Coupe Mondiale in Norway.

In addition to her solo and chamber music career, she has also expanded her work with orchestras, such as the Lisbon Sinfonietta, Camerata Nov’Arte, and the National Orchestra of Porto – Casa da Música, collaborating with conductors like Martin André, Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, Ian Mirkitumov, Luís Carvalho, Pedro Neves, Jan Wierzba, and Baldur Brönnimann.

She is a member of the Bayan Quartet and the (Des)Concertante Trio and was the accordionist for Síntese – GMC and singer Teresa Salgueiro from 2010 to 2019. In addition to her solo career, she teaches at the Castelo Branco Regional Conservatory and Covilhã’s Professional Arts School. Carisa has recorded several CDs, and her performances have been broadcast internationally.

João Pedro Delgado

João Pedro Delgado was born in Porto in 1978 and holds a PhD in Music and Musicology with a specialization in Performance (viola) from the University of Évora, a degree he completed with the highest distinction and honors.

João Pedro has served as the artistic director of the Belgais Center for the Study of the Arts and its choir. He was also the author of programs on Antena 2 (Portuguese National Radio).

He has collaborated with several orchestras, such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orquestra do Norte, and the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, working under conductors like Michael Zilm, Alex Klein, César Viana, Miguel Graça Moura, Ferreira Lobo, Diogo Costa, Pedro Neves, Jan Wierzba, Ian Mikirtumov, and Christopher Bochmann.

João Pedro has published several critical editions of historical works, as well as his own compositions, through AVA – Musical Editions. His works have been performed in various concert halls throughout Portugal, as well as in Spain, Switzerland, Cuba, and the United States.

He is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Applied Arts at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. He was also the Educational and Executive Director of the Castelo Branco Conservatory.
