Christine Johnstone

AOTANGO Quintet will tour New Zealand in April and May 2026, beginning with a performance at the Arts Central Coronation Hall in Bannockburn, Central Otago on April 24th. The tour will be held In Partnership with Chamber Music New Zealand in twelve locations across the North and South Island.

The quintet consists of Andrew Beer (violin), Grayson Masefield (accordion), Lorelle McNaughton (guest pianist), Gordon Hill (double bass) and Sam Swindells (guitar). Kathleen Tomacruz will join them on guitar for select concerts.

Performing in Piazzolla’s original quintet formation, A Century of Tango traverses the evolution of tango from beloved classics such as Ángel Villoldo’s El Choclo, Carlos Gardel’s Por una Cabeza, and Gerardo Matos Rodríguez’s La Cumparsita to the revolutionary nuevo tango compositions of Argentinian maestro Ástor Piazzolla.
