Iñaki Alberdi recital

Renowned accordionist Iñaki Alberdi will offer two highly anticipated concerts in San José, Costa Rica. The first concert, scheduled for October 29th, will take place in the Golden Hall of Casa Amarilla. This solo recital will feature Alberdi performing the Diachronic Suite, which includes works by Antonio Soler, J.S. Bach, and Astor Piazzolla, inspired by traditional dances and music.

Inaki was awarded first prizes at the Coupe Mondiale (Colmar, 1994), the International Accordionist and Bayanist Competition (Moscow, 1995) and the Music Competition for Youth (Valladolid, 1996). He was recently nominated for the Gramophon Editor’s Choice Award for his monographic record on Sofia Gubaidulina and has recorded for Stradivarius, Kairos, Verso, Et’Cetera, and the National Spanish Orchestra labels.

The second performance will be with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica at the National Auditorium, under the direction of composer José María Sánchez-Verdú. Alberdi will perform the solo part of Nosferatu, accompanying F.W. Murnau’s iconic silent film, with a score composed by Sánchez-Verdú himself.

Nosferatu, soloist Iñaki Alberdi

Alberdi has collaborated closely with different current composers, and premiered work by Sofia Gubaidulina, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Luis de Pablo, Joan Guinjoan, Gabriel Erkoreka, Ramon Lazkano, Jesús Torres, Agustín Charles and José María Sánchez-Verdú.

One of Iñaki Alberdi’s constant focuses as an accordion player has been to provide the instrument with a repertoire that it lacked, given its recent incorporation into the world of academic concerts. That is why from the beginning of his career he has considered that working hand in hand with contemporary composers was fundamental for the expansion of that repertoire, which, in addition, would be the best legacy to leave to future generations of accordionists.
