Accordions Worldwide

The Lang Lang Juvenile Music Centre, established in 2015, has become a pioneering institution in China, boasting the country’s first children’s free-bass accordion orchestra. Under the guidance of Zhou Lang and Zhang Jingru, the centre has gained widespread recognition for its achievements in cultivating young musical talent.
The Lang Lang Junior Accordion Orchestra has been committed to cultivating young performers and has created a unique teaching system according to the characteristics of students of different ages. Combining different performance forms such as solo, ensemble and tutti, it comprehensively trains students’ sensitivity to rhythm and perception of music.
At the same time, it regularly organizes open classes, master classes and other activities, enabling students to learn from each other and make progress together, creating performance opportunities for students and cultivating their self – confidence and stage performance ability.
Each year, the center organizes two intensive training camps. The winter camp, held during the children’s school holidays in January, runs for 20 days, while the summer camp in July spans 30 days. These programs cater to children aged 5–18, offering individual and group lessons to develop both solo and ensemble skills.

With over 300 students from Tianjin, as well as participants from other cities in China, the center has contributed significantly to the promotion of accordion music in the region. It also maintains an international perspective, aligning its teaching standards with world-class accordion performance levels.
Notable international achievements include: the Lang Lang Quartet winning third prize in the Classical Ensemble Category at the 2023 Coupe Mondiale winning first prizes in the under 12, under 15 and under 18 solo groups of the Castelfidardo Classic in Italy, third prize in the classical chamber music group, first prize in the Klingenthal Classic Solo and the first prize of the Junior Coupe Mondiale.
This year’s winter camp concluded with two showcase concerts. The first highlighted students of all ages performing as soloists and in ensembles. The second featured internationally acclaimed students who won competitions in 2024, including the Coupe Mondiale, PIF Castelfidardo, and Klingenthal contests.

World champion accordionist Grayson Masefield, who conducted masterclasses during the week, joined the second concert as a guest artist. He was honored with an award recognizing his role as Senior Artistic Director of the Lang Lang Juvenile Music Centre.
Looking ahead, the Lang Lang Juvenile Music Centre will celebrate its 10th anniversary this November with a special concert festival, marking a decade of exceptional contributions to the world of accordion music.
