CITATION FOR
NZAA HONOURED FRIEND OF THE ACCORDION AWARD FOR
MARGARET WINIFRED TIER
Presented 1st December 2024 by NZAA President Sonja Palinich
Margaret Winifred Tier has been an important member of the Dargaville Museum management committee in a number of different official positions since 1999.
Since 2008, Margaret Tier has been involved assisting Kevin Friedrich organising the concert series “an afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich & Friends” from the very first promotional fundraising concert held on the 30th March 2008.
The concerts “an afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich & Friends” have always included a significant accordion presence and have been an important promotion of the Accordion Gems display at the Dargaville Museum.
Margaret Tier was involved with the Dargaville Museum securing the purchase of the historical Aratapu Public Library building (built 1874) which was moved in 2007 to the current Dargaville Museum site
Museum volunteers showered the Library with their community spirit and spent countless hours rebuilding and restoring the Aratapu Library to its former glory. An important volunteer was builder and husband Ted Tier. The ‘Accordion Gems’ exhibition is an anchor display in this new Music Room.
Margaret Tier was also assisting organization of the 2009 Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships day trip to Dargaville and the afternoon concert of international guests and the World Accordion Orchestra on August 30th, 2009, held in a crowded Dargaville Town Hall.
Since the start of “an afternoon of Music with Kevin Friedrich & Friends” promotional and fundraising concerts, Margaret Tier has been a key organizer of what is today, the 19th fundraising concert.
The enthusiastic support of Dargaville citizens has meant full halls at concert after concert over these many years and fundraised significant funds (approx. $95,000) for the Dargaville Museum.
We honor and gratefully thank Margaret Tier for being a great friend of the accordion and an enormous contributor over many years to the Dargaville area community in her official roles with the Dargaville Museum.
