Michael Schwarzenbacher is a young, up-and-coming accordionist from Austria. The accordion does not fit into one category for him, but is rather characterized by its diversity. He combines various musical styles in his work and is always on the lookout for something new.
His artistic work is shaped by master classes with Teodoro Anzellotti, Veli Kujala, Andreas Borregaard, Vincent Lhermet and Klaus Paier, among others. He has won several prizes in national and international competitions.
In addition, he has played as a soloist with various orchestras and performed at the Vienna Musikverein and the Vienna Konzerthaus. Michael Schwarzenbacher has performed with his solo program at the Vienna Cultural Summer and the Brandenburg Summer Concerts, for example.
In 2023, Michael received the Bruno Gironcoli Prize from the City of Villach, as well as the Carinthia State Cultural Promotion Prize for Music for his artistic activities to date.
On June 14th, At the invitation of the Viennese cultural association Redtenbach, in Vienna, Austria, Michael Schwarzenbacher gave samples of his considerable skills and took his audience into various sound worlds of the accordion. This allowed the audience to experience the instrument in its incredible range and versatility: from the baroque sounds of J.S. Bach to the Viennese classics of a sonata by Haydn, through sentimental melodies by Franz Schubert to fiery rhythms by Richard Galliano and Astor Piazzolla.
The musical understanding of European music to the Japanese music of Toshio Hosokawa could not have been more contrasting. An impressive journey through the variety of sounds of the accordion!
