Tallinn, Estonia – September 28, 2024
A special concert took place at Mustpeade Maja, featuring Sofia Gubaidulina’s Fachwerk, performed by Momir Novakovic alongside the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Kaspar Mänd. The 40-minute piece, known for its intensity, was described as both challenging and enjoyable to play. This performance marked a significant academic milestone, as it was Estonia’s first PhD evaluation involving the accordion.
The jury for this evaluation included Elżbieta Rosińska and Raimondas Sviackevicius, who traveled to Estonia to lend their expertise, while Vladimir Blagojević provided support for the creative work.

The first half of the evening included two contemporary classical works inspired by architecture: Stockholm Diary by Esa-Pekka Salonen and Janáček’s Suite for String Instruments. The second half featured Fachwerk by Momir Novakovic, who has won prizes in over 40 international competitions, including winning the 2008 Junior Coupe Mondiale, held in Glasgow, Scotland.
The next concert at the venue, dedicated to the memory of composer Kaija Saariaho, will take place in a week.
Additionally, students from Momir Novakovic’s class at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre presented a program featuring accordion and electronics on Monday, September 30th, at the Black Box Theatre as part of MÜRIAADfest. The project, coordinated by Dascha Goldberg, is the culmination of workshops held earlier this year in Gdansk.
