Our concert with the Northern Lasses on July 9th was excellent, and despite the heatwave conditions, the ladies were in great form and produced a very wide range of ensemble and solo pieces.

The concert began promptly at 2pm with the Stockport Accordion Band performing three pieces, Top of the World (The Carpenters), Under Paris Skies and All I Have To Do Is Dream (Everly Brothers). Rob Howard followed the band with a solo spot, playing his Happy Music Medley, a Handel selection, and Bella Ciao.

The Northern Lasses – Julie Best, Jean Corrighan, Anne-Marie Devine, Helen Rich – then did their first lengthy spot, consisting of A La James Last, Domino, Argentine Skies, Memory (Lloyd Webber), Fleur de Andalusia (solo – Jean), Shetland Fishermans Backstep, BonnyCragside/Rothbury Hills, Miss Rowan Davis (Phil Cunningham), Northern Lasses (Harry Hussey), Caramba, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Style Musette (Andre Verchuren, solo – Julie), Tarantella Don Augusto, Girls, Girls, Girls and Colonel Bogey. What a great set, with lots more to come! This took us up to the interval, followed by the raffle.

John Jones opened the second half with an excellent Edith Piaf medley, La Vie En Rose, If You Love Me and No Regrets. The Northern Lasses then came on for their second spot, which included Bonanza Two Step, Craic at Clashmore Hall (Phil Cunningham), Orange & Blue/Boys of Bluehill, Vindobona, Happy Wanderer, Accordion Polka (solo – Helen), Canon in D (Pachelbel), Happy Days, Blue Moon, Laird o Drumblair/Masons Apron (solo – Anne-Marie), Dornoch Links/ Rabbitskin Hat/Mount Stuart House, Cameron J Macleod, Strip the Willow set.

We had a really great and varied concert, very much appreciated by all present.
