Editor’s Note: Paolo Picchio is a distinguished figure in the world of music, particularly known for his contributions to the accordion. He is a musicologist, accordionist, arranger, and composer. From 1992 to 2013, he served as the Artistic Director of the important and prestigious “Premio e Concorso Internazionale Città di Castelfidardo,” international accordion competition and festival. Paolo Picchio has also been involved in other significant events, such as the “Premio Internazionale Astor Piazzolla” from 1994 to 2001. During these years, he worked closely with Mirco Soprani who was Castelfidardo Councilor for Culture and then continued working together during the time Mirco Soprani served as the Mayor of Castelfidardo from 2006 to 2016.

Qualche mese fa ti avevo raccontato al telefono che nella memoria del mio cellulare tu stavi ancora registrato come “Sindaco”. Era ed è una cosa voluta. E non la modificherò neanche adesso, adesso che per un po’ non ci potremo incontrare con i nostri corpi umani mortali, costretti ad attendere, ad aspettare di incontrarsi nuovamente di là, dall’altra parte.
Tu sei stato il Sindaco, un modello indimenticabile di Sindaco quanto ad abnegazione, umanità, generosità, pragmatismo. È stato facile lavorare con te per venti anni: le difficoltà andavano superate, i problemi dovevano essere risolti.
I nostri ruoli al Festival erano diversi, per forza di cose dovevamo vedere le cose da una prospettiva diversa: ma quanto era facile ogni volta trovare la sintesi, individuare quello che era meglio per Castelfidardo, per la fisarmonica. In ogni situazione guardavi il lato umano: questo ho sempre ammirato di te.
Come in questa foto con l’amico Moreno in cui ti ascolto parlare quasi incantato e sicuramente soddisfatto del lavoro che si portava avanti insieme. La tua grande bontà risplendeva nella nostra comunità e sono certo che sarà riconosciuta anche nell’aldilà. Grazie di tutto Mirco.

A few months ago I told you on the phone that in my cell phone memory you were still registered as “Mayor”. It was and is something intentional. And I will not change it even now, now that for a while we will not be able to meet with our mortal human bodies, forced to wait, to wait to meet again over there, on the other side.
You were the Mayor, an unforgettable model of Mayor in terms of self-denial, humanity, generosity, pragmatism. It was easy to work with you for twenty years: the difficulties had to be overcome, the problems had to be solved.
Our roles at the Festival were different, we necessarily had to see things from a different perspective: but how easy it was every time to find the synthesis, to identify what was best for Castelfidardo, for the accordion. In every situation you looked at the human side: I have always admired this about you.
Like in this photo with my friend Moreno in which I listen to you talking almost enchanted and certainly satisfied with the work we were carrying out together. Your great kindness shone in our community and I am sure it will be recognized in the afterlife too. Thank you for everything Mirco.
