With PIAZZOLLA RELOADED in the sold-out Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, the PANTONALE Festival celebrated Astor Piazzolla, the iconic composer, and carried his musical legacy into the future.

Guest of honor, Daniel Villaflor Piazzolla (grandson of Astor Piazzolla and President of the Piazzolla Foundation), said that it was “a great honor to see the music of his grandfather Astor Piazzolla celebrated in such a vibrant and forward-looking way. PIAZZOLLA RELOADED not only reflected his legacy, but also the living, ever-evolving spirit of his work and the instrument he loved so much.”

The program presented Piazzolla’s most beloved works, from “Adiós Nonino” and “Oblivion” to “Balada para un loco”, “Yo soy María”, and the monumental “Aconcagua” concerto, culminating in Roberto Di Marino’s captivating double concerto. Four world premieres, selected as the best entries of the 2026 ASTOR PIAZZOLLA® International Competition, offered new and inspiring perspectives and carried on Piazzolla’s spirit.

Prize winners of the ASTOR PIAZZOLLA® International Competition presented their interpretations of his music, including Romina Balestrino, whose compelling vocals had impressed the jury. Bandoneonist Pasquale Lancuba premiered Nita Sinaga’s “Cerca” and Mariano Speranza’s “Vértigos y Ausencia.” The composer and accordionist Pietro Roffi performed his own award-winning piece, “Quasi un Tango.” Sonia Possetti’s composition “Al Demonio” was premiered by Leo Florin. Speranza won the competition, while Sinaga, Roffi, and Possetti received the Pantonale Berlin Prize.

International stars of the accordion and bandoneon scene, Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi (bandoneon) and Luca Lucini (guitar), presented Roberto Di Marino’s “Double Concerto.” The exceptional accordionist Ksenija Sidorova brought Astor Piazzolla’s famous “Aconcagua” concerto to life and then captivated the enthusiastic audience with Piazzolla’s “Libertango.” The entire program was accompanied by the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn under the direction of Miran Vaupotic.

The concert PIAZZOLLA RELOADED was also part of the “Global Sound Stories – Accordion Meets Literature” concert series presented by the Berlin State Music Council. The award-winning author Maria Cecilia Barbetta offered another perspective on Astor Piazzolla and his work in her reading.

Das Programm präsentiert besonders beliebte Werke Piazzollas, von »Adiós Nonino« und »Oblivion« über »Balada para un loco«, »Yo soy María« und das monumentale »Aconcagua«-Konzert bis hin zu Roberto Di Marinos mitreißendem Doppelkonzert. Vier Weltpremieren, die als die besten Beiträge des Internationalen Wettbewerbs ASTOR PIAZZOLLA® 2026 ausgewählt wurden, eröffneten neue, inspirierende Perspektiven und trugen Piazzollas Geist weiter.

Preisträger*innen des Internationalen Wettbewerbs ASTOR PIAZZOLLA® präsentierten ihre Interpretationen seiner Musik, unter anderem Romina Balestrino, die die Jury mit ihrem eindringlichen Gesang begeistert hatte. Der Bandoneonist Pasquale Lancuba brachte die Kompositionen »Cerca« von Nita Sinaga und »Vértigos y Ausencia« von Mariano Speranza zur Uraufführung. Der Komponist und Akkordeonist Pietro Roffi führte sein ebenfalls preisgekröntes Stück »Quasi un Tango« selbst auf. Die Komposition »Al Demonio« von Sonia Possetti wurde von Leo Florin uraufgeführt. Speranza konnte den Wettbewerb für sich entscheiden, während Sinaga, Roffi und Possetti den Berliner Preis von Pantonale erhielten.

Die internationalen Stars der Akkordeon- und Bandoneonszene Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi (Bandoneon) und Luca Lucini (Gitarre) präsentierten das »Double Concerto« von Roberto Di Marino. Die Ausnahmeakkordeonistin Ksenija Sidorova brachte zum Abschluss Astor Piazzollas berühmtes Konzert »Aconcagua« zum Klingen und ließ es sich nicht nehmen, das begeisterte Publikum mit Piazzollas „Libertango“ weiter zu verzaubern. Das ganze Programm wurde vom Württembergischen Kammerorchester Heilbronn unter Dirigent Miran Vaupotic begleitet.

Das Konzert PIAZZOLLA RELOADED war auch Teil der Konzertreihe »Global Sound Stories – Akkordeon trifft Literatur« des Landesmusikrats Berlin. Die mehrfach ausgezeichnete Autorin Maria Cecilia Barbetta eröffnete in ihrer Lesung eine weitere Perspektive auf Astor Piazzolla und sein Wirken.
