In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the International Music Council, Rachael Xu, a long-standing Global Friend of the International Music Council, had recently conducted three concerts in her native Sichuan-Chongqing region, in support of the IMC’s Five Music Rights.

Over the past five years, despite the challenging Covid-19 situation, Rachael has successfully raised over 10,000 euros to promote the Five Music Rights as she has evolved from a primary school music prodigy to a young musician performing on the world class stages.

The inaugural concert, titled “Melodies Afloat,” was integral to the celebration of the Centennial of the Chunxi District and featured the debut of “Concert on the Ferry” on the Jing River in Chengdu.

The subsequent performance was Rachael’s solo recital, where she presented a repertoire ranging from Russian melodies to global music compositions.

The pinnacle of her performance series included a collaboration with AOTANGO Duo, a violin-accordion duo formed by her teacher, world champion accordionist Grayson Masefield and Auckland Philharmonia concertmaster Andrew Beer.

The concert was held after a small group of local Chongqing children musicians joined Rachael at the Chongqing Philharmonic.  Throughout her performance series, Rachael championed the Five Music Rights and sought to provide more opportunities to those who could truly benefit musically from her efforts.

Her international achievements include fifth place in the Junior Virtuoso Entertainment Category at the 77th Coupe Mondiale International Accordion Competition, as well as second and third place in the Student Virtuoso and Student World Categories, respectively, at the 49th Premio Internazionale “Città di Castelfidardo.”
