This year, for the 18th time, the Macedonian Association of Accordionists (MAA) “Ljubiteli na klasichna muzika” Skopje proudly supported the CIA international project “May 6th – World Accordion Day (WAD)” through a series of exciting musical events.

Once again, the Association attracted its loyal audience to the WAD Gala Concert, celebrating both this important international event and the birthday of the accordion. The concert took place on May 12th in the Chamber Hall of the Macedonian Philharmonic in Skopje.

As a proud member of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA), the Macedonian Association of Accordionists celebrated several significant anniversaries this year: 25 years of membership in the CIA, the 10-year hosting jubilee of Ognen Janeski, and the coming of age of the event itself, marked by the 18th concert dedicated to World Accordion Day.

As in previous years, the event was hosted by the well-known Macedonian presenter Ognen Janeski, who has now served as host for ten consecutive years.

Professor Zorica Karakutovska surprised him by interrupting his speech and coming onto the stage to present him with Certificate of Appreciation along with a modest gift. His sincere emotional reaction touched the audience, who responded with long and heartfelt applause, honoring Ognen for a decade of dedicated and successful hosting of the “World Accordion Day” event. Through his charisma and recognizable voice, he has become one of its trademarks and an inseparable part of its tradition.

Over the years, the WAD Gala Concert has grown into an important and prestigious cultural and artistic event, recognized both nationally and internationally. The concert is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a project of national interest.

The concert featured renowned artists and accordion students from the class of Professor Zorica Karakutovska from the Faculty of music – Skopje. Accordionists and chamber ensembles performed works by Zubitsky, Bete Ilin, Derbenko, Piazzolla, Mozart etc. In addition to solo performances, the audience enjoyed accordion chamber ensembles as well as mixed chamber ensembles featuring accordion alongside other instruments.

The hall was filled with an enthusiastic audience that reacted emotionally throughout the evening, rewarding the musicians with well-deserved applause.

At the invitation of the Music School “Stevan Mokranjac” – Vranje, Serbia, accordionists from Professor Karakutovska’s class gave a memorable concert on May 18th as part of the event “May – The Month of Music.” The close cooperation established through the professor’s previous masterclasses continues successfully and to the mutual satisfaction of all participants.
