Biography:
Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) is a renowned accordionist and educator in China. She currently serves as Member of the CIA Music Committee, Deputy Secretary-General of Chinese Accordion Association (CAA), Director of Accordion Professional Committee of Shanghai Musicians Association, Dean of the Department of Western Music at the Shanghai Normal University Music College, Professor of the Accordion Major, and Master’s Supervisor.


As the first accordionist to collaborate with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra since the opening-up of China, Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) has performed with renowned conductors such as Yu Long and Oscar Award-winning composer Alexandra Desplat, actively engaging in the accordion performance stage.



Since becoming a teacher, she has been dedicated to accordion education and academic activities, making outstanding contributions to the professionalization and popularization of the accordion cause in China.
The students she has cultivated have almost won the first prizes in major national competitions in China, including the university professional group and popular music performance group. They have also achieved remarkable results in international competitions. For example, students like Wan Yizhong and Wang Jie have won the third prize in the Senior Virtuoso Entertainment Group of the 62nd Coupe Mondiale and the first place in the Junior Virtuoso Entertainment Group of the 17th Репников Альбин Леонидович International Accordion Competition respectively. Recently, the Shanghai Breeze Duo, consisting of Feng Jingrui and Shen Zhiyao, won the first prize in the World Music Ensemble Group of the 77th Coupe Mondiale in 2024, and Feng Jingrui won the first prize in World Music Group at the 48th PiF (Premio Internazionale di Fisarmonica) in 2023.



She has compiled and published several sets of educational books, such as the Shanghai Musicians Association Accordion Grading Anthology, accumulating rich teaching resources and making significant contributions to the popularization of accordion education in China.


Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) actively promotes the diversified development of the accordion in China. In 2008, she founded the first diversified professional accordion music performance group in China – Shanghai Normal University Accordion Orchestra. This group has created a performance form integrating accordion playing and stage performance. Since 2011, the orchestra has held annual solo concerts and has been invited to perform in important domestic and international performances, collaborating with international performers. It has led the trend of diversified development of the accordion in China.










She is also committed to planning and organizing various accordion art activities. Since 2019, she has successfully planned, organized, and held several “Shanghai Spring” International Accordion Cultural and Art Festivals in Shanghai. These festivals have invited officials from the CIA, prize winners of the Coupe Mondiale, well-known accordion experts and artists from home and abroad to hold special academic lectures, public welfare activities, and concerts of different styles and themes. These events have promoted the exchange and development of accordion art, built a platform for communication and cooperation among accordion artists at home and abroad, and facilitated the integration of Chinese accordion with the world, demonstrating the infinite possibilities of accordion development.




Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) also actively participates in the organization and planning of international accordion competitions. Since 2012, she has served as a judge for major domestic and international accordion competitions and events such as the Coupe Mondiale, including the 64th, 72nd Coupe Mondiale, Xinjiang Tacheng International Accordion Culture and Art Festival, Shenzhen Bao’an International Accordion Art Week, and Chengdu Teenager Accordion Art Week.


In 2019, Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) was awarded Merit Award by the CIA.

In 2024, Crystal Wang (Congyu Wang) was awarded the New Zealand Accordion Association (NZAA) Merit Award “for services to the development of the accordion in New Zealand and the world“. News report at: Award
