People’s Music Publishing House has just released Easy & Beautiful Accordion Ensemble Collection, a fresh anthology that marries the lyrical spirit of Chinese music with rhythms and harmonies from around the globe. Curated by rising accordion stars Tan Jialiang and Wang Dan, the book offers more than twenty arrangements and original works graded so that absolute beginners, school ensembles and university majors can all find music that fits their fingers—and their souls.

Tan Jialiang is already a familiar name on the international accordion circuit, but he is equally passionate about grassroots music education. In 2021 he swept both the top prize in Guangdong’s 3rd Young Teachers Teaching Skills Competition and the champion’s trophy in Guangdong’s 1st Fundamental Arts Education Contest—a rare double that testifies to his versatility as both performer and pedagogue. Easy & Beautiful Accordion Ensemble Collection distils five years of his arranging and composing work, from cheerful miniatures for children’s first ensembles to sophisticated concert pieces for advanced players. Every page is fuelled by his love for the instrument and his desire to give the next generation of accordionists music they can’t wait to play.

A Message from the Editors
In the vast universe of music, we—Tan Jialiang and Wang Dan—guided by profound love and relentless curiosity, join hands to present this Easy & Beautiful Accordion Ensemble Collection before you. It is not only a milestone in our own musical odyssey, but also a reverent offering and heartfelt aspiration for the development of Chinese accordion art. We hope it will inject fresh vitality and deep reflection into the accordion education systems of universities and conservatories alike.
The accordion, a musical treasure born in Europe, carries within its bellows a miraculous kinship with the Chinese mouth-organ, the sheng. Ever since it crossed temporal and geographical boundaries to take root in Chinese soil, its singular timbre and expressive depth have made it a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures, captivating countless musical explorers. Promoting the flourishing of accordion art is therefore both a profound excavation and wide transmission of Chinese musical culture, and an enrichment of the world’s musical diversity.
We know that an outstanding collection is not merely a whetstone for technique, but also a lens that widens musical horizons and a nourishment for the musical soul. It can ignite boundless passion and unremitting pursuit in performers, leading them ever deeper into the mysteries and charms of music. Hence we have carefully planned and arranged this volume, wishing to contribute our wisdom and strength to the vigorous growth of Chinese accordion art.
Within these pages we have gathered and selected beloved classics from every corner of the globe—melodies both lyrical and rhythmically vibrant, rich in cultural meaning and emotional depth. Through our adaptations and arrangements, each piece is tailored to the unique character of the accordion, allowing players to experience boundless musical fascination while sensing the distinctive flavours and profound cultural backgrounds of different traditions. These works will undoubtedly become a priceless resource for enhancing technique, broadening perspective, and deepening musical understanding.

In addition, we have devoted ourselves to creating a series of original works for accordion ensemble. These compositions not only incorporate innovative elements of modern music, but also embody our own deep contemplation and bold exploration within the accordion world. Several were commissioned: Dream Voyage for the Accordion Orchestra of North Minzu University,China in the Lights for the Shanghai Normal University Accordion Orchestra, Joyful Festival for the Hangzhou Yilin Accordion Orchestra, and Morning March, the anthem of the Yantai Qinhai Accordion Orchestra. These ensembles provided invaluable support and encouragement during the creative process, bearing witness together to the innovation and growth of accordion art.
Throughout the compilation we have received the generous assistance of many colleagues and friends. We extend to them our sincerest gratitude and deepest respect. We also hope this collection will become a treasured resource for accordion lovers, music scholars, and educators, accompanying them on their onward journey and shared growth.
May this Easy & Beautiful Accordion Ensemble Collection become a powerful engine for the development of Chinese accordion art. May every reader who opens these pages draw upon its musical wisdom and strength, allowing the voice of the accordion to become an eternal melody in life, accompanying you through every beautiful moment.
