Gade Music Research Institute Joins UNESCO’s International Music Council – China, France

The author: Crystal Wang (王从余 Congyu Wang) is a renowned accordionist and educator in China. She currently serves as Member of the CIA Music Committee, Deputy Secretary-General of Chinese Accordion Association (CAA), Director of Accordion Professional Committee of Shanghai Musicians Association, Dean of the Department of Western Music at the Shanghai Normal University Music College, Professor of the Accordion Major, and Master’s Supervisor.

On February 28, 2025, the Gade Music Research Institute  (伽地音乐研究院), organizer of the Zhongsin International Music Competition, was officially approved as a Member unit of the International Music Council (IMC), Official NGO partner of UNESCO in the category of “national and specialised organisations”.

This marks the first time a Chinese private music institution has gained representation within the IMC, securing greater international voice for China’s music industry.

The Zhongsin International Music Competition, one of the activities co-organized by the Gade Music Research Institute, will benefit from this milestone. In the future, our artists, judges, and contestants will gain increased opportunities to showcase their talents on UNESCO platforms in areas such as education, performance, and cultural outreach. The competition’s offline practice base—the Gade Community Music Hall—will continue advancing music public welfare initiatives and promoting the IMC’s Five Music Rights.

Becoming a member unit of the International Music Council, Official NGO partner of UNESCO, signifies international recognition of the Gade Music Research Institute’s organizational management, artistic standards, and social impact by an authoritative global body.

This status creates significant opportunities for the institute’s global development. These include collaboration with top international music institutions and artists, participation in multiple IMC and UNESCO projects in culture, education, and youth fields, and the ability to advocate initiatives within IMC and UNESCO.

Introduction to Gade Music Research Institute: Building an International Community Music and Arts Ecosystem

Founded in 2019 in Chengdu, China, the Gade Music Research Institute (Gade Music Research Institute)  is a non-profit social organization (NGO) initiated by Gade Cultural Enterprise in collaboration with hundreds of senior musicians worldwide. Its mission is to advance music education development, promote international exchange and cooperation, and focus on community cultural development.
